The Indian ODI skipper, Rohit Sharma, has dropped updates from his training sessions and has strongly submitted his candidature for the Australia ODI tour after having aced his fitness test.

Ever since announcing their Test and T20I retirements, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's careers have faced several questions. This is owing to various reasons, the most crucial of them being their lack of gametime, since one-dayers are not played much nowadays.

However, despite all that, the two Indian veterans have shown keenness towards playing the format for India and will continue till the next ICC World Cup, which will be played in 2027. Captaincy retention and their age have also been huge factors affecting the batter's future.

Rohit Sharma's ODI future remains uncertain despite passing the Fitness Test

Rohit retired from Tests this year during the IPL, following which he has not starred for India. He had long announced his retirement from the shortest format and now hopes to continue in only one format of the game.

The 50-over format games against Bangladesh were postponed, as a result of which the next opportunity for the Men in Blue skipper to take the field is their tour to Australia. There have been speculations claiming Rohit might retire anytime soon and hand over the captaincy to Shubman Gill.

Rohit will be turning 40 by 2027, and his questionable fitness doesn't make him ideal to be considered as India's skipper in the next ODI World Cup. However, the decision over his future is expected to come after the Asia Cup ends. Until then, BCCI contracted Rohit Sharma has passed the fitness tests successfully.

Rohit sparks return chances with social media posts

Rohit has dropped a slight hint of his mindset on these speculations, as he has indicated towards 'not going anywhere' from the ODI format, especially after being in good touch since the Champions Trophy.

After seeing the tragic loss for his side in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup final, the veteran would want to see his team win the premier ICC tournament before he departs. However, the call is not entirely his, as the team management and the selectors have a huge role to play.

He is currently training in Mumbai with his close friend Abhishek Nayar, who was the assistant coach of the Indian men's team earlier this year. On Thursday evening, Rohit shared a video on his Instagram handle and shared BTS from the nets, saying, "I am here again. It feels really good."

“That felt good,” Rohit wrote as the caption on Instagram.

Will Rohit Sharma feature for India A?

Another interesting development to keep an eye on is the fate of Rohit Sharma in the upcoming India A vs Australia A series. The veteran Indian batter has been reported to be featuring in the games to get some game time before the Australia series.

The India A Squad for the one-dayers is yet to be announced, and both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could be looking forward to making their way back into the squad. Until now, no other batter has been as promising as the dynamic duo for India.
