The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced its latest ODI Players rankings on March 24, 2021, and it saw India’s premier opener and white-ball vice-captain Rohit Sharma, suffering a slump in the ODI batting rankings.

Rohit Sharma returned to the Indian ODI team after a long layoff due to an injury that had suffered during the T20I series in New Zealand. It had made him miss the ODI series against the same opposition and then also sat out of the Australia ODI series in Australia as well, as he recuperating from his hamstring injury suffered during the IPL 2020 in UAE.

He recently played in the first ODI against England at the MCA Stadium in Pune and scored 28 runs in 42 balls with 4 fours to his name. This has caused him to lose his second spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings released on March 24.

This resulted in Babar Azam, the Pakistani captain moving up to the second spot with 837 rating points, while Indian captain Virat Kohli reigns supreme at the no.1 spot with 868 rating points. Ross Taylor is no.4 with 810 rating points, while Aaron Finch of Australia wraps up the top five spots with 791 rating points.

Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan maintained his top spot in the ICC ODI all-rounders’ rankings which sees Ben Stokes moving up to the no.3 spot. Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi is at no.2 spot, Chris Woakes occupies the no.4 spot in the rankings, while Imad Wasim of Pakistan completes the top five ranked ODI all-rounders.

The ODI bowlers rankings see New Zealand’s Trent Boult at the no.1 spot after taking 5 wickets against Bangladesh in the first two ODIs of the three-match series. Mujeeb Ur Rahman of Afghanistan sits at the second spot, while Jasprit Bumrah, who will miss the England ODI series, is at the no.3 spot. Mehidy Hasan and Chris Woakes complete the top five ranked ODI bowlers’ list.
