Australia National Cricket Team batter Travis Head came out in favor of India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma to miss the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 due to family obligations. He believes that the Indian opener made the right decision to stay with his family.

India National Cricket Team will be without the services of their skipper Rohit in the first Test of the five-match Test series against the Australia National Cricket Team. The series opener between the teams is all set to take place from 22nd November at the WACA Stadium in Perth.

Rohit Sharma will be missing the game to stay with his wife back in India

Rohit will be missing the game to stay with his wife back in India. The couple recently welcomed their second child on Friday (15th November) hence the Indian skipper to sit back home. Even before the month, there were reports of batters missing the first Test due to the same reason.

It was learned that the birth of the child would clash with the Perth Test. But with the baby arriving a week ahead of the first game, rumors were there that India captain Rohit Sharma would be boarding a flight to Australia and would be playing the series opener of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

However, later it was revealed that Sharma had told BCCI that he would be missing the first Test. The reports claimed that he would be joining the team ahead of the second game in Adelaide and then would be leading the team from the second game.

Rohit has faced a bit of criticism as well for missing the first Test. Many are of the opinion that with the team facing a whitewash at home against New Zealand, the skipper should've been the first person to be there in Australia and lead from the front in the series.

I support Rohit Sharma's decision to be with family - Travis Head

Amid all this, Australia National Cricket Team batter Travis Head came out in favor of Rohit. He said that had he been in the place of India National Cricket Team skipper, he would've done the same thing and stayed with his family. Speaking to the media, he explained:

"Hundred per cent, I support Rohit's decision. I would have done the same in the same situation. We sacrifice a lot of things as a cricketer. We do live a very privileged life and we do also get looked after. But also on the flip side we keep missing important milestones. So, ya, I would do the same thing if I was in his position, you do not get that time back. Hopefully, he returns at some stage in this series."

Jasprit Bumrah will be leading the India National Cricket Team in the first Test

In the absence of Rohit, Jasprit Bumrah will be leading the India National Cricket Team in the first Test. The pacer will have a massive opportunity to prove his worth and lead from the front in the series opener. As a bowler, he will be key for the team across the series.

India cannot afford to lose a single game in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 as it would almost dent their chances of qualifying for the final of the ICC World Test Championship final. To make it into the final, they need to win four games and manage one draw.
