Team India ODI and Test skipper Rohit Sharma recently opened up about how he takes external opinions and criticism on his performances on the field. Rohit Sharma emphasized that he focuses on his responsibilities within the team rather than getting distracted by external opinions.

Rohit Sharma showcased brilliance with five IPL titles for the Mumbai Indians (MI). He transitioned to captain of the Indian team, which introduced new challenges and scrutiny. Sharma is focusing on leading his team to success while managing high expectations from fans and critics alike.

The opener guided the team to the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) and ODI World Cup last year. However, the Indian team lost to Australia in the finals. Sharma ended India's 11-year trophy drought by winning the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA in June.

India secured their second T20 World Cup after defeating South Africa in a thrilling final in Barbados. After the victory, Rohit, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20 internationals. Rohit was part of MS Dhoni's squad that won the inaugural T20 World Cup back in 2007.

I Have To Focus On That - Rohit Sharma

Speaking on Jitendra Chouksey's podcast, Rohit Sharma emphasized the importance of focusing on his responsibilities within the team rather than getting distracted by external criticism. He added that external opinions would not help and players should concentrate on improving their game.

The 37-year-old stated that he learned self-belief through his experiences. The Indian skipper said that he encourages players to ignore distractions and focus on their performance to help the team.

"There's a certain job that the team is expecting from me, and I have to focus on that rather than thinking about what XYZ is talking about me," Rohit said.

"I've learned this much later, like I said, through the experiences that I've had, through the frustration I've gone through, that who are you to tell me how to play and all that, what are you doing? No point thinking like that and wasting your time because that's not going to help your game and that's not going to help the team. So, no point thinking about it. Focus on your game, how you can get better," he added.

Rohit Sharma is currently leading the Indian team in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Following this series, the Men in Blue will play a three-match Test series against New Zealand at home. India will then travel to Australia for the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.

Next year, Rohit may captain India in two significant ICC tournaments. The India national cricket team is set to play in the Champions Trophy 2025. India currently leads the World Test Championship table. If they maintain their position, it would secure India's spot in a third consecutive final match.
