India captain Rohit Sharma might be playing his last ODI match in the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand. According to a report in PTI, Rohit will discuss his future with the chief selector Ajit Agarkar after the final match.

However, former India captain Sourav Ganguly isn't pleased with the talks of Rohit Sharma's retirement. Ganguly feels that Rohit is in good form and reminded everyone that he even won a (T20) World Cup a few months ago.

Sourav Ganguly also picked his favorites in the upcoming final between India and New Zealand and claimed that Indian players are in good form ahead of the big game. Although he picked India as the favorites, he admitted that anyone can win or lose.

Sourav Ganguly breaks silence on Rohit Sharma's international future

As per India Today, Sourav Ganguly denied the rumors of Rohit Sharma taking retirement and wondered why such things are even being discussed ahead of an important game. He also recalled India's superb record in the last few ICC tournaments under Rohit.

"Why is there talk of Rohit Sharma's retirement? Why is this even a question? He won the World Cup just a few months ago. I don't know what the selectors are thinking, but Rohit is playing very well," Ganguly said.

"India is far better than New Zealand. India played in the 2023 World Cup finals, won the 2024 T20 World Cup, and they are still unbeaten in this Champions Trophy. The same team will play," he added.

India are not scheduled to play many ODIs this year, which raises questions on Rohit's availability as an international player. Since his Test form is in dire straits, his overall international future might be towards the end.

"India is the favourite" - Sourav Ganguly

When asked about the favorites for the final, Sourav Ganguly picked India over New Zealand as he named the in-form players for the Men in Blue. The former India skipper believes that both the teams are strong and it could be anybody's game.

"India is the favourite. India is in good form. Everyone is in very good form. Virat Kohli is there, Shubman Gill is there, Shreyas Iyer, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul - everyone is in good shape. It will be a good match. India's bowling line-up is very good. Anyone can win, anyone can lose," Ganguly mentioned.

Indian players have looked good in the tournament so far as all the top seven batters have their highest scores over 40. The batting line-up looks strong with Virat Kohli leading the way with 217 runs in four matches at an average of 72.33.

Rohit Sharma on the verge of creating records

With India's victory over Australia in the semi-finals, Rohit Sharma became the first captain to lead his team in all the four ICC finals - T20 World Cup 2024, ODI World Cup 2023, WTC 2023 final, and Champions Trophy 2025 final.

Sharma also has a chance to become the second Indian captain after MS Dhoni to win a second ICC title. Rohit had also led India to the T20 World Cup 2024 title and will be aiming to draw inspiration from that campaign.
