Rohit Sharma’s parents, Gurunath Sharma and Purnima Sharma, are in London for the third and final ODI match of the ongoing series against England, which could be the last match for the former captain of the India National Cricket Team.

It is reported that Rohit is all set to conclude his ODI career after the India vs England 3rd ODI at Lord’s on July 19. He has already retired from the T20I and Test formats; now, if the reports are to be believed, then the next ODI match is going to be his final ever match for Team India.

Rohit Sharma is all set to retire from ODIs: Report

According to the media reports, the Indian team management had clear communication with Rohit, depicting their plan leading up to the next ODI World Cup, which will be in 2027. It is believed that the Indian team management is not willing to carry the former captain till the ODI World Cup, so there was clear communication between the opener and the team management, as per media reports.

The recent form of Rohit Sharma has also raised concerns over his future amid the India vs England ODI series. In two matches, the experienced opener managed to score only 11 runs and 26 runs in the first and second innings, respectively. In both of the games, the 39-year-old, who is known for his aggressive batting intent, remained far from his usual flair.

The decision to have a final word with Rohit Sharma could be made during India’s home ODI series against Afghanistan. But a half-century kept the batter on thin ice. As he is struggling to get runs against England in overseas conditions, the team management had their final words with Rohit Sharma.

Rohit Sharma's parents, Gurunath Sharma and Purnima Sharma, are in London ahead of the final ODI

CREX reported that Gurunath Sharma and Purnima Sharma are in London for the upcoming ODI in London to witness the last dance of Rohit. Rohit himself has reportedly arranged everything so that his parents could stay in the stands during the match.

The report further mentioned that the team management wishes to explore young talents in place of the veteran batter. Talents like Yashashvi Jaiswal, who has a good ODI record in a limited number of ODI games, are among the candidates who could be in the race to replace Rohit instantly.

The report confirmed that the upcoming ODI match in London is going to be Rohit Sharma’s last match in Indian colours. His parents have already arrived in the city and will witness their son’s last match for the national cricket team.

One of the finest batters for India is set to bid adieu

Rohit Sharma will end his career as one of the most decorated openers for the Indian cricket team across the formats. As a former captain, he guided the team to multiple glorious moments, including winning the 2024 T20 World Cup title and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Under his leadership, the team went close to winning the ODI World Cup as well in 2023, when the Men in Blue played the final of the tournament.

As a batter, he has scored 11,731 runs for an average of 48.67, including 32 centuries and 58 half-centuries in 286 ODIs.
