Indian skipper Rohit Sharma provided an update on ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s injury ahead of the first ODI of the three-match series against England. Rohit Sharma confirmed that the team management is awaiting the results of Jasprit Bumrah’s medical scans, which will provide clarity on the pacer’s recovery.

Bumrah was withdrawn from the England series due to a back injury sustained during the final Test of the Australia tour in Sydney. Bumrah missed the latter part of the first innings and did not take the field for the second innings. He is now in a race against time to recover before the Champions Trophy.

Varun Chakaravarthy Replaces Jasprit Bumrah for England ODI Series

India’s chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, previously stated that Jasprit Bumrah would return for the final ODI against England, but the pacer was absent from the revised squad announced by the BCCI. Tamil Nadu spinner Varun Chakaravarthy was added to the series, which will commence in Nagpur on February 6.

The 31-year-old recently underwent scans at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to assess his injury. Although Bumrah is part of India’s provisional 15-member Champions Trophy squad, his participation depends on his fitness. After the England series, Team India will travel to Dubai for the Champions Trophy.

We're Waiting on an Update About Jasprit Bumrah’s Scan - Rohit Sharma

Speaking to the media on Wednesday ahead of the opening ODI game, Rohit Sharma said that the results of Jasprit Bumrah’s medical scans will arrive in the coming days. Sharma stated that the scans will determine whether Bumrah can participate in the final ODI against England.

"Jasprit, obviously we're waiting on some update about his scan, which is due to happen in the next few days," Rohit was quoted by ICC as saying when asked about an update on Bumrah's availability for the series.

"We're just waiting on that update, which is going to happen in the next few days, the scan. Then, probably we'll have a little more clarity about his participation in the last ODI," he added.

Varun Chakravarthy is yet to make his ODI debut for India, but he has played 18 T20Is since making his debut in 2021. India has the chance to make changes to the final 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy before February 12.

Find a Way to Get Rana to Debut vs England - Aakash Chopra

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra said that there will be a challenging task for head coach Gautam Gambhir ahead of the ICC tournament. He said that the team should find a way for uncapped pacer Harshit Rana to make his debut in the upcoming ODI series against England.

“Bumrah’s name not mentioned in the updated squad. Not for the final ODI also. There’s no Siraj in the team already. Find a way to get Rana to debut vs Eng. I don’t know how though…with Arshdeep having played only a handful of ODI and Shami on a comeback trail. Play three seamers?” Aakash wrote.
