India were defeated by a resilient New Zealand team at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Right from the start of the match, New Zealand found itself on top. India were chasing them and did well to take the game deep. However, the massive first innings lead proved to be the difference in the end.

With this defeat, India's captain Rohit Sharma joined an unwanted list that he wouldn't be proud of. The list also comprises of some of the greatest captains that India has ever seen like Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni.

No. of home Test defeats under Rohit Sharma

The loss to New Zealand in the first Test was India's third Test defeat at home under Rohit Sharma. Rohit has joined Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni on this list now. While Kapil Dev lost four home Tests, MS Dhoni lost three home Tests as captain.

It was also India's third Test defeat at home in just under two years. Compared to this, India lost just two Tests under the captaincy of Virat Kohli in 31 matches. Overall, this was the fifth defeat for India under Rohit Sharma's leadership in 19 Tests.

Record win for New Zealand

Meanwhile, it was a record win for New Zealand as they defeated India after 36 years in India. It was a massive achievement for the Blackcaps as they were waiting for this moment for a long time.

India lost a Test match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru after a gap of 19 years. India's last defeat came way back in 2005 to Pakistan. India lost that match by 168 runs as the three-match Test series ended 1-1.

Second home Test defeat in a year

The defeat to New Zealand in Bengaluru brought another unwanted record for India. India have now lost two home Tests within a year after a gap of 12 years. Before this defeat, India were also beaten by England in Hyderabad earlier this year. However, the Men in Blue went on to clinch the series later 4-1.

With two more Tests to go in this series, India will be expected to make a strong comeback. Over the years, India have come back hard after losing the first Test of the series. However, it won't be easy for them as New Zealand will be high on confidence after this win.
