Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma made a stunning start off his innings on Day 4 of the ongoing second and final Test against Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Monday, September 30.
He smoked two giant sixes to script history in Test cricket. The Hitman delivered a strong statement for Bangladesh and everyone watching by dispatching Khaled Ahmed for a monstrous six off his first over during India’s first innings on Monday in Kanpur.
Rohit Sharma hits back-to-back sixes to make Test history
Rohit was in aggressive mode, charging down the pitch, positioning himself to the leg side of the ball, and executing a powerful swing off the Bangladesh pacer. The new SG ball soared over long-on and crashed into the shamiana, leaving Bangladesh players and fans in awe.
Well, the Indian captain didn’t stop there, as Khaled was on the target of the Indian opener at Green Park in the ongoing second and final Test. After Jaiswal’s three fours in the first over, Rohit showed he can do even better by hitting back-to-back sixes.
Khaled falls into a trap that many fast bowlers do when facing Rohit—bowling short of a good length. On this pitch, that was an invitation for disaster, and Rohit took full advantage, perfectly executing a pull shot over deep square leg off Khaled to script the history.

By back-to-back sixes against the Bangladeshi pacer, Rohit Sharma became only the fourth player to hit his first two balls for sixes in Test cricket. Interestingly, three out of the four players on this list are Indian, and they are Sachin Tendulkar, Umesh Yadav, and now Rohit.
Foffie Williams had smashed Jim Laker for back-to-back sixes in his first two deliveries in a Test game back in 1948 to achieve the remarkable feat. Now, Rohit is the only third Indian to have smacked his first two balls for sixes in Test cricket. Rohit and Yashasvi’s aggressive assault saw Team India record the fastest 50 in Test cricket.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz stops Rohit Sharma's assault in Kanpur Test
However, the Indian captain could face only 11 balls in the first innings against Bangladesh, as Mehidy Hasan Miraz cleaned bowled the senior opener for just 23 runs, featuring three sixes and one boundary in the ongoing second and final Test in Kanpur.
That’s a much-needed breakthrough for Bangladesh to slow down the onslaught from the Indian batters in the ongoing Kanpur Test. Mehidy delivered a well-flighted ball outside off, generating a sharp spin.
The ball also kept low, catching Rohit Sharma off guard as he pushed forward without anticipating the significant turn. The ball sneaked past his inside edge and shattered the middle stump, and India suffered a big blow in Kanpur.
Notably, MS Dhoni made history as the first Indian cricketer to hit a six off the very first ball he faced in a Test inning. Dhoni achieved this milestone in 2006 when he sent a delivery from Pedro Collins sailing over the boundary in Basseterre.
Six years later, Zaheer Khan replicated this feat by hitting Tim Southee for a six on his first ball in Bengaluru.
