Former Team India cricketer Wasim Jaffer showered praise on Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shreyas Iyer following the IPL 2025 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Jaffer was impressed by how effortlessly Iyer dispatches the ball for sixes, calling him "probably the best six-hitter" among current Indian batters.

Shreyas Iyer played a match-winning innings of 72 from 41 balls in Punjab Kings' win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk on April 30. Chasing 191, PBKS were 44/1 when Iyer came in to bat in the fifth over. He helped his team to a four-wicket win with two balls to spare. Iyer won the Player of the Match award.

"I am really impressed with the way Shreyas Iyer has been hitting sixes," Jaffer said on ESPNcricinfo's Time Out show.

"We have seen since the 50-over World Cup [in 2023]. [He is] probably the best six-hitter across spin bowling as well as fast bowling. How easily he dispatches the ball into the crowds - it's absolutely amazing," he added.

He Is Somebody Who You Feel Can Hit Sixes With Ease - Wasim Jaffer

The former Indian opener said that Shreyas Iyer rarely mistimes a shot. He added that Iyer's hits not only clear the boundary but also travel a long distance.

"He is never in two minds. You hardly see him mistime it. It doesn't just carry over the boundary, it goes really long. Looks like he has worked really hard at that. Across all the Indian batters, he is somebody who you feel can hit sixes with ease," Jaffer opined.

Shreyas scored his fourth fifty of the IPL 2025. Notably, all have come in away games, with three in Punjab’s victories. He has scored 360 runs in ten matches at an average of 51.42 and a strike rate of 180.90. The win over Chennai pushed Punjab to second place on the table with 13 points from ten games.

Can PBKS Qualify for the Playoffs After Their 4-Wicket Win Against CSK?

Punjab Kings are closing in on a playoff spot in IPL 2025, with just two more wins likely securing a place in the final four. With four league matches remaining, PBKS can even target a top-two finish by winning all of them, which would take their total to 21 points—more than any other team can achieve this season.

PBKS will play their next three matches in Dharamshala – their second home. They are set to face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), led by Rishabh Pant, on May 4. The Shreyas Iyer-led team will lock horns with Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) before traveling to Jaipur to face Rajasthan Royals (RR).
