Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul And Rishabh Pant Underwent Training Session In Mumbai To Prepare For South Africa Tour

Some of the Indian players were reportedly said to be training in Mumbai ahead of the South Africa tour. 

Players like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, who were part of the T20I series against New Zealand but were rested for the two-match Test series. 

Indian players trained in Mumbai to prepare for the South Africa tour

All three of them were training at Mumbai Cricket Association‘s (MCA) training facility at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).

Mumbai batter Ajinkya Rahane, who missed the second Test against New Zealand at the Wankhede, was also seen practicing with the aforementioned players. 

“All of them trained hard at the nets from 2pm to 4.30pm. Since the main ground was hosting a Vijay Hazare Trophy game between Orissa and Andhra, the players batted in the nets facility,” a source told Times Of India.

India tour of South Africa to start on December 26

India will play against the Proteas in three Tests and as many ODI matches with the tour starting on December 26.

On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced a 18-member Test squad for the South Africa tour. 

Apart from announcing the Test squad, the BCCI also mentioned that Rohit will completely take over the leadrship of white-ball cricket as he was named the ODI skipper as well. 

Rohit led India in the New Zealand T20I series just after Virat Kohli stepped down from the T20I captaincy role at the end of the T20 World Cup. India blanked the Black Caps 3-0 under the new era of Rohit and head coach Rahul Dravid.

Rohit has won the Asia Cup in 2018 and the Nidahas Trophy in the same year and has also led the team in various bilateral series in Kohli’s absence.

The 34-year-old has played 227 ODI matches amd 119 T20 Internationals since making his debut against Ireland in 2007 in the 50-over format.

Notably, Rohit has also been named as the vice-captain of the Test side which means  Rahane’s position in the team remains doubtful.
