Rohit Sharma and Prasidh Krishna combined to produce a rare feat during the third ODI against Afghanistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday. The experienced opener grabbed three catches at first slip, while Prasidh Krishna accounted for all three wickets in a sensational opening spell.

The Indian pacer ripped through Afghanistan's top order after the visitors elected to bat first. Interestingly, all three dismissals came through the same Rohit Sharma-Prasidh Krishna combination, creating a unique hat-trick of catches and wickets in the opening eight overs of the contest.

Prasidh Krishna made an immediate impact by dismissing Rahmanullah Gurbaz with the very first ball of his spell. The right-arm pacer found just enough movement outside off stump as Gurbaz pushed at the delivery, only to edge it straight to Rohit Sharma at first slip.

The duo struck again in the sixth over. Prasidh bowled a testing back-of-a-length delivery to Rahmat Shah, who attempted to work the ball towards the leg side. However, the Afghanistan batter only managed a leading edge, and Rohit completed another sharp catch.

The unique hat-trick was completed in the eighth over when Ibrahim Zadran became Prasidh's third victim. Looking to drive on the up, Ibrahim edged the ball to first slip, where Rohit safely pouched his third catch of the innings.

As a result, Rohit and Prasidh scripted a rare triple combination, with all three Afghanistan wickets falling in identical fashion through catches at first slip.

At the time of writing, Afghanistan were struggling at 29-3 in 8 overs after opting to bat first in Chennai. Prasidh Krishna was the standout performer with figures of 3/5 from four overs, while Rohit Sharma's excellent work in the slips helped India seize complete control during the early stages of the innings.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz (5), Rahmat Shah (5) and Ibrahim Zadran (11) all fell to the Prasidh-Rohit combination as Afghanistan's top order collapsed under pressure. Hashmatullah Shahidi and Darwish Rasooli were left with the task of rebuilding the innings after India's dream start.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul is not playing today's IND vs AFG 3rd ODI.

India vs Afghanistan team changes for the 3rd ODI

Both India and Afghanistan have made multiple changes to their playing XIs for the third and final ODI of the series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With India already holding an unassailable 2-0 lead, the team management has used the opportunity to rotate players and test their bench strength ahead of future assignments.

India have made three changes to the side that secured a dominant 170-run win in Lucknow. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy returned after regaining full fitness, while Harsh Dubey and Prasidh Krishna have also been brought back into the XI. The trio replace KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav and Arshdeep Singh.

Afghanistan, meanwhile, have made four changes as they look to avoid a series whitewash. Experienced all-rounder Mohammad Nabi and star pace-bowling all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai return to the side. Fareed Ahmad Malik and Ziaur Rahman Sharifi have also been included. The quartet replace Sediqullah Atal, Nangeyalia Kharote, Bilal Sami and Mohammad Saleem Safi.

Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first in Chennai, hoping their revamped lineup could put up a stronger performance against an Indian side that has dominated the first two matches of the series.
