Former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has had a go at his critics with a spectacular half-century at Adelaide. The veteran opener's conscious knock under pressure saw him taking calculated risks and hitting the ball just twice over the boundary ropes. This led Rohit to a new six-hitting record, a record he has been chasing quite often for India.

India are facing the World Champions, Australia, in a three-match ODI series. The series marks the preparation for India for the upcoming World Cup to be hosted in South Africa in 2027. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the Indian veterans, are looking forward to fancying their chances in the World Cup with a strong performance in these games.

After a not-so-impressive start to the tournament, Rohit and Virat failed; the new skipper, Shubman Gill, lost his first match as captain, and the bowlers did not hit the right spots, leading to a very messy situation.

Rohit Sharma sets a new SENA record with Adelaide knock

Indian opener Rohit Sharma has been known as a serial six-hitter throughout his career. Having played in 275* ODI matches, the former Indian captain has hit 346* sixes for India in the ODI format alone. Rohit already holds the position of the highest six-hitter for India, leaving behind MS Dhoni by a huge margin of nearly 120 sixes.

Alongside being the highest Indian six-hitter, he is also the second-highest six-getter in the ODI format in the World, with only former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi over him. Rohit is, anyway, 6 sixes away from going past the former Pakistani skipper.

Playing for India at Adelaide, Rohit hit two sixes off Mitchell Owen that took him to a new ODI milestone. The opener now has 150 sixes in SENA countries, the only Asian batter and just the second visiting batter after Chris Gayle to have reached the landmark.

Sharma beheads critics after promising a show in Adelaide, sets contention for the World Cup 2027

After his flop show at Perth, though, the veteran Indian batter continued getting backed up by former Indian stars; he was continuously criticized for lacking runs. Though Rohit scored a stunning 79 in the Champions Trophy final, the critics doubted his ability to continue until the next World Cup.

Rohit Sharma was asked to get more gametime, and so he did, as he participated in all optional sessions ahead of the second ODI at Adelaide. He scored runs with great grit as the track looked much more challenging to bat on.

Sharma scored 73 runs and led the Indian innings at the top, leading to a strong comeback ahead of the ICC World Cup 2027. He was dismissed disappointingly to Mitchell Starc, who returned for his second spell.

Virat Kohli was dismissed for consecutive ducks for the first time in his ODI career

For the first time in his 304 ODI matches-long career, Indian veteran Virat Kohli was dismissed for consecutive ducks in consecutive games. While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were contending for a spot in the World Cup squad, this marked a major setback for Kohli.

Virat has been short of runs after his return to the longest format of white-ball cricket, and while he gestured strangely, acknowledging his fans, they speculated about his retirement. However, from India's point of view, they would love to see Virat shooting back to form, much like Rohit Sharma.
