Indian opener Rohit Sharma has congratulated Virat Kohli on his successful stint as the Indian Test captain for 7 long years. It is notable that Virat Kohli announced his decision to step down as India’s Test captain on Saturday via social media post, a day after India lost the three-match Test series to South Africa away from home.

Virat Kohli’s numbers in Test cricket have been phenomenal as a captain. When he took charge in 2014, team India were ranked 7th in the ICC Test team rankings and for the last four years, the India National Cricket Team has ended the year being the number 1 Test team in the rankings. He led India in 68 Test matches, winning 40 of them and losing just 17 games under his captaincy.

Rohit Sharma Congratulates Virat Kohli

Virat came up with a social media post on Saturday stating that he didn’t feel that he would continue leading the same way that he has done for the last 7 years and thus, it is time for him to move on. BCCI dignitaries also informed that it was Virat’s personal decision to step down and no one from the board had forced him to do so.

Team India’s Next Test Captain To Be Decided In The Next 15 Days

As per reports, Virat Kohli had informed his teammates in Capetown after the final Test that he will be quitting as the Test captain the very next day.It is notable that the BCCI is already in talks with the national selection committee and the team management for the appointment of the new Indian Test skipper and the decision is set to be finalized in the next 15 days.
