Former India all-rounder Suresh Raina expressed his support for Rohit Sharma to lead the national team in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Suresh Raina predicted that Rohit Sharma might guide the cricket team to victory in the World Cup in the shorter format.

Rohit Sharma made a comeback to the T20I squad for the three-match series against Afghanistan. The 36-year-old steered the team to a convincing six-wicket victory in the series opener. Nevertheless, the opener scored a duck in Mohali on Thursday, January 11.

Rohit Sharma Brings A Lot Of Clarity – Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina highlighted Rohit Sharma‘s qualities of bringing clarity and intent to the dressing room. Raina believes Rohit should captain India in the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in the USA and the West Indies in June this year.

“Absolutely. I think Rohit brings a lot of clarity. Rohit brings a lot of intent in the dressing room. We have seen that in the World Cup. In the dressing room, we have seen how players respect him, how they see him as a friend, and on top of that, he has been in prime form,” Raina told Sports18.

“He has been leading from the front. He has been taking a lot of bold decisions. He has been great with fielding placements. He has been a gun player for India for many, many years. I think he should lead India in the T20 World Cup. You never know, he might repeat South Africa 2007,” he added.

Before the Afghanistan series, Rohit Sharma had not played T20Is for 14 months. The Indian skipper and Virat Kohli prioritized the ODI World Cup and Test matches. The veteran batting duo excelled as the top two leading run-getters in the recent World Cup.

Hardik Pandya has been appointed as the captain of the Mumbai Indians for the upcoming edition of the IPL, following his trade from the Gujarat Titans. This move has sparked speculation about a potential leadership role for Pandya in the national side in T20 cricket.
