Rohit Sharma Should Open Alongside Mayank Agarwal For India In Test Cricket: Sunil Gavaskar

Former legendary Indian batsman, Sunil Gavaskar has vouched for Rohit Sharma to open the innings with Mayank Agarwal in Tests. Notably, Rohit Sharma is all set to join the Indian squad for the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy. Team India have tried a couple of batsmen for the opening slot alongside Mayank Agarwal in the first two Tests.
The Indian Cricket Team went with Prithvi Shaw to open the innings in the first Test. Shaw’s failure led to his removal Shubman Gill’s inclusion in the second Test. Shubman Gill made his Test debut for team India in the second Test and performed brilliantly well. Now, there are lots of concerns for the Indian team management to fit in Rohit Sharma in the first eleven.

Sunil Gavaskar Backs Rohit Sharma To Open Alongside Mayank Agarwal
Speaking in the post-match show after the second Test, Sunil Gavaskar said, “I will have Mayank – Rohit opening, Gill in middle order and Vihari goes out for the third Test,” he said while speaking after the match on Sony Sports Network.”

Rohit Sharma sustained an injury during IPL 2020 and the BCCI didn’t select him initially for any of the formats. Later on, Rohit went on to play in the IPL and even scored a half-century in the final of IPL 2020. Rohit had been working with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore and going through his rehabilitation.
Rohit Sharma To Join The Indian Team From Wednesday
The Indian opening batsman is all set to join the team from Wednesday. Rohit Sharma flew to Australia on December 15 and his quarantine in Australia ends on December 29. The Indian Cricket Team, meanwhile, levelled up the series on Tuesday. The Men in Blue beat Australia by 8 wickets to avenge their Adelaide humiliation.
