Indian opener Rohit Sharma has scripted history by becoming the player with the most sixes in One-Day Internationals (ODI) in the ongoing three-match ODI series opener against South Africa on Sunday (November 30) at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
Rohit Sharma’s record-breaking moment came off South Africa’s young pacer Marco Jansen, who bowled a short delivery angled into the right-hander.

The veteran Indian opener timed it perfectly, got on top of the bounce, rotated his body, and pulled the ball cleanly over long leg for his 352nd six in ODI cricket.

With this, the former Indian captain surpassed the former Pakistani captain and all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who previously held the record for the most sixes in ODIs for years. Now, Rohit leads the list with 352 sixes, pushing Africa to the second spot with 351 sixes.
West Indies legend Chris Gayle is the third batter with the most sixes in ODIs, followed by Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya and former Indian captain MS Dhoni. The six not only showcased Rohit’s incredible skill and timing but also marked a historic moment for him.

Rohit Sharma out LBW as Marco Jansen breaks dangerous partnership in Ranchi
However, following the milestone, Rohit Sharma was dismissed LBW by Marco Jansen. The South African pacer bowled a back-of-a-length delivery that didn’t bounce much. The Hitman tried to rotate and pull the ball, but he missed it. The ball struck him on the back of the thigh, with the impact in front of the stumps, which meant the umpire ruled him out LBW.
Before walking off, Rohit had a brief chat with Virat Kohli, but he didn’t review the decision. The wicket ended his innings at 57 runs from 51 balls, including five fours and three sixes, as Jansen finally broke the threatening 136-run partnership for the second wicket in Ranchi.
Meanwhile, the former Indian captain turned heads in the ongoing first ODI against South Africa with his completely transformed look. The veteran batter has slimmed down and looks far more athletic, moving faster on the field and running brilliantly between the wickets.
His batting is sharper than ever, with quick reflexes and improved agility making him a threat from the first ball. The change is not just physical, but his presence on the field also looked more energetic and commanding at the JSCA International Stadium Complex.
This transformation clearly reflects Rohit’s determination to stay at the top and be a major force for India in the lead-up to the ICC World Cup 2027. Notably, it was Rohit's third consecutive fifty in the ODI cricket after announcing his retirement from Test cricket earlier this year.
