After a few mishits and poor shot selection, Mumbai Indians star Suryakumar Yadav batted to his potential in the match against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. His 47-ball innings was laced with 11 boundaries and two hits over the fence. But what caught the eye was his shot selection and perfect execution.
Suryakumar Yadav has had a successful run in the T20s, albeit inconsistent. He had earlier played under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and now growing his game under Rohit Sharma. Yadav never misses a chance to interact with the Mumbai Indians captain and learn something new.
I have trusted Rohit bhai’s suggestion blindly: Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav said that he trusts the suggestions made by Rohit Sharma blindly. Besides that he also mentioned that whenever he interacts with the Mumbai Indians captain, he has something new to learn. Yadav also mentioned that Rohit Sharma shares him tips from his experience and what he has done at top of the order.
“I have trusted Rohit bhai’s suggestions blindly. Every time I meet him or interact with him, I learn something new. He has been brilliant and every time I sit down with him, I try to grasp as much as I can from him as he has done so well in international cricket over the years.
“As I am batting at the top now, he shares the same experience as to what he did. He also explains different situations and what he has gone through (in his career).,” Suryakumar Yadav said in a media interaction.
Yadav can be a crucial cog for India in the T20 World Cup next year. And while selectors will have a problem of plenty the Mumbai striker is knocking doors for a spot in the squad for the marquee tournament.
The right-handed batsman, 30, has the experience of 155 T20 matches under his belt. He has accumulated 3192 runs at an average of over 31 with 16 half-centuries to his name. He is a kind of player who can add mettle to the national T20 side but the question remains, can he be consistent with his performances.
