Is the legendary Mumbai Indians (MI) captain and batsman, Rohit Sharma, on his way to join the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026?
A fresh social media activity by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has led to speculations of Rohit Sharma switching teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and playing under his good friend Abhishek Nayar.
Abhishek Nayar set to be named KKR head coach
Former India National Cricket Team assistant coach Abhishek Nayar is all set to be named as the head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
Several media outlets have reported that Nayar was informed about his appointment as the head coach by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) officials last week, and a formal announcement will be made very soon.
Nayar, who will be replacing Chandrakant Pandit in the head coach role, had earlier served as the assistant coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and worked at the KKR academy.
He is regarded for his hands-on player-development work with several big names like Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer, and his ability to find young talent is praised a lot in the Indian cricket circuit.
Rohit Sharma shares a good bond with Abhishek Nayar
Abhishek Nayar and Rohit share a great bond, and the former has helped the Indian great to transform himself at the age of 38 and improve his fitness levels.
Nayar revealed that Rohit got insecure after a few pictures of him, where he looked bulky, went viral on social media, and then he decided to put in hard work to lose weight.
In several pictures and videos before the Australia tour, Rohit and Nayar were spotted together doing training in the gym and on the ground, and the former India skipper lost over 10 kilograms of weight.
The work on fitness did wonders for Rohit Sharma as he delivered an exceptional performance on the Australia tour and ended the series as the leading run-getter.
After failing in the first ODI, he slammed 73 runs in the second game and 121* runs in the third game to bag the Player of the Series award. His success Down Under also helped him become the No. 1-ranked batsman in the ICC ODI Rankings for the very first time in his legendary career.
