The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to rest three key players for the upcoming ODI series against the England National Cricket Team. The two teams will be locking horns with each other in the three-match ODI series, which will be India's only 50-over series ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
As per the reports in Sports Tak, it is learned that the skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah won't be playing the three-match ODI series against the England National Cricket Team, which will be played in February.
BCCI wants Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Virat Kohli to get the necessary rest ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
This is because the Board of Control for Cricket in India wants Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Virat Kohli to get the necessary rest ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament will played from 19th February, and the India National Cricket Team will be playing all games in Dubai.
The selection committee will soon be taking a decision on the same, and the squad for the series will be announced soon. It's fair to say that the squad for the England series will be similar to the one that will be playing the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, barring a few changes.
Shubman Gill will be leading the Indian team against England in absence of Rohit Sharma for England series
With Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah likely to be rested for the three-match ODI series, it is expected that Shubman Gill will be leading the Indian team against England. This is because he recently was named as the vice-captain of the Indian team in white-ball format.
But missing the ODI series against England will be a massive challenge for Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah to return straight to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 without preparations. But playing continuously might even trouble their performance.
The trio has been continuously playing cricket and is currently playing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. While the batters have struggled to get going, the fast bowler has been carrying the entire bowling single-handedly in the series and has bowled in bulk.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be taking place in a hybrid model, India will play games in Dubai
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be taking place in a hybrid model, with India National Cricket Team playing all their games in Dubai. The Rohit Sharma-led side will open their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 and, after that, will be playing Pakistan on February 23.
India is placed in Group A along with hosts Pakistan, along with India, New Zealand and Bangladesh and Group B features Cricket World Cup 2023 champions Australia, alongside Afghanistan, England, and South Africa. The top two teams from both groups will play in the semi-final.
