Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener Prabhsimran Singh surprised many by leaving out veteran Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma when naming his favorite players. The right-handed batter picked former Indian cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag as his two favorite players in a recent conversation with CricTracker.

Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag were part of India’s wins in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. Yuvraj secured the Player of the Tournament award in 2011. Sehwag was known for his aggressive and attacking batting style. He is the only Indian player to score two triple centuries in Test cricket.

Prabhsimran Singh said that Yuvraj Singh is a mentor and brother who provides guidance and regular support in his career. The 25-year-old added that he has long admired Sehwag’s attacking batting style, which his coach often compared to his own.

"Yuvi paji has played a big role in my career. I always talk to him like a brother and not like a player. He knows very well on what exact things we’ve to work on. On weekly basis, I get to speak with him. He has supported me a lot," Prabhsimran said.

"When I started playing cricket, I used to watch Sehwag’s batting a lot on YouTube. I used to play a lot of attacking cricket. My coach used to say that my batting style resembles Sehwag’s. I like his batting a lot. If I get a chance, I would love to meet him and practice with him," he continued.

In the rapid-fire session, Prabhsimran Singh faced the tough choice of picking between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as his ideal batting partner. The Punjab Kings opener chose Kohli over the current ODI skipper.

Prabhsimran also named Jasprit Bumrah as the toughest bowler to face in the IPL, citing the pacer’s skill and consistency. He further stated that the Impact Player rule should continue in the league, noting its importance in modern T20 strategies.

The young batter also shared his views on the best Indian players for specific shots. Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli were selected for the straight drive and cover drive, respectively, while Rohit Sharma was chosen for his pull shot and Suryakumar Yadav for executing the scoop.

Prabhsimran Singh has been with Punjab Kings since his IPL debut in 2019, but played only six matches in his first four seasons. He played all 14 games in 2023 when Shikhar Dhawan took over as captain and scored his maiden IPL century against the Delhi Capitals (DC).

The right-handed batter finished the season with 358 runs at a strike rate above 150. He had his best season in 2025, scoring 549 runs in 17 matches at an average of 32.49 and a strike rate of 160.52.

Prabhsimran and Priyansh Arya helped PBKS post explosive starts throughout the season. However, the team narrowly lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by six runs in the final. Following three consecutive 300-plus run seasons since 2023, Prabhsimran has cemented his place in the squad.
