Rohit Sharma's 2027 ODI World Cup participation confirmed? India captain breaks silence

India captain Rohit Sharma has finally opened up on his prospects of playing the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rohit, who just led India to the Champions Trophy 2025 title, was asked about his international future.
Rohit Sharma is clearly at the end stages of his career but still wants to play for the country till the time he is enjoying it. He has achieved almost everything apart from a World Cup title, a trophy he came so close to achieving in 2023.
However, he has his eyes set on the 2027 World Cup now. However, the tournament is still far away and it remains to be seen how Rohit maintains his form and fitness. The Indian skipper doesn't want to think too far ahead and just wants to concentrate on the present.

Rohit Sharma breaks silence on playing 2027 ODI World Cup
When asked about the prospects about his participation in the 2027 ODI World Cup, Rohit Sharma didn't confirm it but claimed that he wants to keep all the options open. Currently, he just wants to enjoy playing with the team and wants to see if he can continue it for a couple of years.
"It is very hard to say that right now. But I am keeping all my options open. I want to see how well I am playing. Right now, I am playing really, really well, and I am enjoying everything I'm doing with this team, and the team is enjoying my company as well, which is nice," Rohit was quoted as saying by the ICC.
Rohit feels that the next World Cup is still too far but didn't deny his participation as well. Rohit will be almost 40 by the time the next World Cup takes place. Even if he plays in the tournament, it remains to be seen whether he can continue being India's captain till that point or not.
The 2027 ODI World Cup will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Australia will go into the tournament as defending champions after having won the 2023 ODI World Cup by defeating India in the final.

Rohit Sharma further mentioned that he is enjoying the game currently and does not see any reason to retire soon. He refused to leave his team and hailed the players for their recent performances.
"As long as I am enjoying the sport, I am enjoying playing the game, doing what I am doing for this team, I will continue to play. It is something that really makes me happy," Rohit said.
"There are a lot of things involved, there is so much pride, and the way this team is playing, I do not want to leave this team. It is something that really makes me happy," the Indian captain concluded.

Rohit Sharma played a match-winning knock of 76 off 83 balls in the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand in Dubai. He struck 7 fours and 3 sixes during his knock. Rohit gave India a superb start at the top by scoring runs quickly in the powerplay.
He completed his fifty off just 41 balls. Although he slowed down later, his innings ensured that India have a solid base which the middle-order batters capitalised perfectly. The Men in Blue chased down the target with 1 over to spare and Rohit was adjudged the Player of the Match in the final.
