Rohit Sharma will be missing the first two games of the series against Australia
Earlier, there were speculations that Rohit Sharma might miss either of the first two Tests against the Australia National Cricket. But the fresh set to reports claimed that the opening batter will be missing the first two games of the series, set to be played in Perth and Adelaide, a day and night affair.
This comes as a massive blow to the India National Cricket Team, as they will be without their key player for the first two games. Not only will they be missing the leader, but also they will be without the quality opener for the opening two games, which will be setting the tone for the series.
Rohit reportedly is expecting the birth of his second child, and that will be clashing with the opening games of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. His absence puts Team management under a lot of pressure as his absence leaves a massive void in the XI.
Jasprit Bumrah likely to captain the team in first two BGT Tests
With him expected to miss the first two games of the series, it is expected that Jasprit Bumrah, who is the vice-captain of the team, will be captaining the team. He also was the leader of the team during the Test against England in 2022 when Rohit missed out on the game due to COVID-19.
There were reports which claimed that in the absence of Rohit, either KL Rahul or Abhimanyu Easwaran will be opening the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. The latter played two tour games against Australia A while Rahul was drafted into the squad for second game.
Both Rahul and Easwaran didn't have a great outing with the bat in the practice games. The onus will be on head coach Gautam Gambhir as to who he trusts as an opener in the first two games of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, which will begin from 22nd November in Perth.
