India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma's stars seem to be in turmoil at the moment, and that’s not a good sign at all for the side ahead of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Despite continuous practice sessions in Mumbai after returning from the disastrous Australia tour, his poor form has continued even in domestic cricket.

Rohit made his Ranji Trophy comeback after 10 years, but only to make it memorable for the Jammu and Kashmir pacer Umar Nazir Mir. The Indian captain is currently playing for Mumbai in their ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 clash at the MCA Cricket Ground.

Rohit Sharma fails badly in Ranji's return after 10 years

After Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to bat first, there were high hopes from India’s regular openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit, but both of them disappointed the team and the fans as well by cheaply losing their wickets to Jammu and Kashmir.

The Hitman faced 19 balls for just 3 runs before being caught out by Paras Dogra at the MCA Cricket Ground to extend his miserable run with the bat. Following the Indian skipper’s yet another failure, fans are making a mockery of Rohit for not being able to take on the domestic bowlers.

The retirement calls are intensified after his Ranji player with many fans slamming Rohit for not being able to survive in domestic cricket. Rohit had a difficult 2024 with the bat, but his 31 runs in five innings in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 were just alarming for his career.

He was hoping to find some rhythm in the Ranji game, but he yet again failed to deliver, which only grew calls for his retirement from all formats of the game.

Here's how fans reacted to Rohit Sharma's failure in Ranji comeback:

In 2024, Rohit Sharma could score only 1154 runs in 28 matches at an average of 31.18 and a strike rate of 86.83 across all formats. The seasoned opener finished 2024 with 600+ runs. Additionally, Rohit scored 157 runs in 3 ODIs and 378 runs in 11 T20Is before retiring from the format last year.

Rohit Sharma is unlikely to feature in the last Ranji Trophy 2024-25 game for Mumbai, as he is expected to join the India National Cricket Team for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, which is set to get underway on February 6 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.

Story so far about Mumbai vs Jammu and Kashmir Match

Speaking about the Ranji clash, the Mumbai cricket team had a really poor start, as Umar Nazir Mir wreaked havoc on the top order by removing the wicketkeeper Hardik Tamore (7) and captain Ajinkya Rahane (12) cheaply after getting the big wicket of Rohit on the opening day of the match.

Umar Nazir Mir has so far been lethal with the ball, as the Jammu and Kashmir pacer further went on to dismiss the Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube for a three-ball duck. On the other hand, Yudhvir Singh struck twice, getting rid of Shreyas Iyer for 11 runs off 7 balls and Shams Mulani for a duck.

At the moment, Jammu and Kashmir has put Mumbai out of the track, as the hosts lost seven wickets for just 47 runs in the ongoing Ranji game.
