Former Team India captain Rohit Sharma is set to make his television debut as the host of a new game show. The veteran opening batter has taken up a new role away from the cricket field, with his upcoming Sony LIV show Family Full House with Rohit Sharma scheduled to premiere on September 19.
Rohit’s latest appearance during the show’s promotional campaign has also caught the attention of cricket fans on social media platforms. The moment has sparked discussion about the former captain’s future in Indian cricket and his chances of featuring in the 2027 ODI World Cup in October-November in Africa.
Rohit Sharma’s “Non-Committal?” T-Shirt Linked to Ajit Agarkar’s Remark
During a teaser shoot for his upcoming Sony LIV series Family Full House with Rohit, the former India captain wore a white T-shirt with the words “NON COMMITTAL?” written across it. The image quickly went viral on social media, with several fans linking the message to Ajit Agarkar.

During a press conference at the BCCI headquarters in October last year, Agarkar said Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were “non-committal” about playing in the 2027 ODI World Cup while announcing India’s squad for the ODI series in Australia. He also announced Shubman Gill as India’s new ODI captain.
Rohit later responded to the comment at a DP World event, telling supporters, “You got to commit to watch.” Fans viewed the remark as a lighthearted response to Agarkar’s comments.
Rohit Sharma’s International Future Remains Under Spotlight
Sharma’s future in international cricket has remained a talking point. The opener retired from T20Is after leading India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title. He also retired from Test cricket in May 2025 following a difficult tour of Australia, leaving ODIs as his only format for India.
The 39-year-old will be past 40 when the 2027 ODI World Cup takes place in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Questions over his age, form and fitness have led to speculation about his place in India’s plans, although neither Rohit nor the BCCI has made any official announcement about his ODI future.
A PTI report in July claimed that the Indian selection committee wanted to move on from Rohit after the ODI series in England and give Yashasvi Jaiswal a longer run ahead of the 2027 World Cup. BCCI secretary Saikia later dismissed the claims, after which Rohit scored a superb century at Lord’s.
Rohit's ODI Form Keeps 2027 World Cup Hopes Alive
Despite the questions over his future, Rohit Sharma has continued to produce strong numbers in ODIs. He has scored 379 runs in nine matches in 2026 at an average of 42.11 and a strike rate of 99.21, with one century and one half-century.
Rohit also played an important role in India’s Champions Trophy triumph last year, scoring 180 runs during the tournament. He made a crucial 76 in the final against New Zealand in Dubai, helping India win the title and end a 10-year wait for an ICC trophy.
Overall, Rohit has scored 11,895 runs in 288 ODIs at an average of 48.95 and a strike rate of 93.04, including 34 centuries and 62 half-centuries. India will next play an ODI series against West Indies, beginning on September 27, with matches scheduled in Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati and New Chandigarh.
