Former India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma’s ODI future will be one of the biggest matters to discuss at the BCCI’s high-profile meeting in Mumbai on Thursday, September 3.
The BCCI has called the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Centre of Excellence (CoE) head VVS Laxman for the review at the headquarters in Mumbai. Captains Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer are also likely to attend the review meeting on Thursday.

Rohit Sharma’s ODI future is expected to be one of the most important issues to discuss at the BCCI Review that will also be attended by the secretary Devajit Saikia and president Mithun Manhas.
There has been confusion over whether Rohit Sharma is still part of India’s plans for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Reports had earlier suggested that the selectors did not want him for the mega event and that the ODI at Lord’s could be his final game.
However, the BCCI later denied those reports, leaving everyone confused. The upcoming BCCI meeting could finally bring some clarity about Rohit Sharma’s future in ODI cricket. It will be interesting to see whether Rohit Sharma will be picked for the upcoming West Indies series at home.
India’s poor Ireland and England tours under review
The BCCI will also review India’s recent results, especially the white-ball struggles in Ireland and England. The reigning T20 World Cup champions failed to win any of their six completed T20Is matches in Ireland and England in June 2026.
They also lost the ODI series in England before returning to winning ways in Zimbabwe in the T20I series. India recently won the first Test, but Sri Lanka managed to draw the second Test, and this is also expected to be discussed at the team review meeting. New Zealand tour and WTC plans
India’s future schedule will also be discussed at the BCCI review meeting. The upcoming two-match Test series in New Zealand is really important for India as they eye the WTC Final 2027 spot. India are set to play five T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests in the full multi-format series in New Zealand.
The Indian team is currently sitting in the fifth position in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table, and now they have to win at least five of their seven tests to make it to the final. So, this will be another big matter to discuss at the meeting.
The review meeting is likely to see changes in the Test side to improve performance, as they have only two series – two Tests in New Zealand and five Tests at home against Australia to deliver their best and seal the WTC Final spot after missing out in the last cycle.
Ajit Agarkar’s future in doubt, VVS Laxman in line for bigger role
There are also speculations about Ajit Agarkar’s future as chief selector. VVS Laxman has also been in the news for taking the bigger role that will oversee both CoE and the Indian team.
