Former India batter Mohammad Kaif stated that Rohit Sharma looks four to five years younger than his actual age ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 season. Kaif remarked that Rohit looks 34 after significantly improving his physical fitness, silencing critics regarding his on-field movement abilities.
The opening batter will return to competitive cricket for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2026, which is set to begin on March 28. After facing scrutiny over his weight in previous years, he dedicated time to a body transformation. Observers have noted a visible change in his physique before the tournament.
As If He Has Taken Off Four Or Five Years From His Age - Mohammad Kaif
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Mohammad Kaif spoke about the noticeable transformation of Rohit Sharma. The commentator stated that fans will talk about the physical change during the marquee tournament.
“A year from now, you will remember exactly what I am saying now. Whenever Rohit Sharma comes out to bat, this is what you will recall. Look at what he has done with his fitness, look at how his batting is going. His face has completely firmed up, he looks completely young," Kaif said.
"It’s as if he has taken off four or five years from his age. So watch, at the 2027 World Cup, I guarantee you that these are the two things people will talk about regarding Rohit Sharma. The one people used to question, he has completely put a full stop to that now.”
Rohit Sharma Completely Silenced the Critics - Mohammad Kaif
Critics pointed out Rohit’s struggles while running between the wickets and fielding. Kaif emphasized that he answered all doubts through his dedication. The former batter said that Rohit worked tirelessly on his body to achieve a leaner shape.
“Rohit Sharma completely silenced the critics. People had raised questions in front of him saying that he had become a little heavy, was struggling to move, and was not scoring runs. But Rohit answered all those questions through his performance."
"He worked on his fitness and now he looks extremely lean and fit, much more than before. He effectively proved the critics wrong by showing that he has worked on his body and is in great shape," Kaif opined.
He Has Ticked Both Boxes - Mohammad Kaif
After retiring from Tests and T20 internationals, Rohit has been active in ODI cricket. Since the start of 2025, Rohit Sharma has participated in 17 ODI matches. He has scored 711 runs at an average of 44.43 and a strike rate of 97.79, including two centuries and four half-centuries.
Mohammad Kaif said that the veteran cricketer ticks all the necessary boxes, leaving analysts with nothing to complain about regarding his international future.
“Then the next question people had was whether he would be able to score runs. But if you look at his recent form in ODIs, his centuries, and his overall performance, he has answered that as well. He has ticked both boxes, and now people have nothing left to say,” he concluded.
