There are speculations about Indian skipper Rohit Sharma's future during the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where the Men in Blue secured victory. Rohit Sharma dashed the retirement rumors that were making the rounds even before the team arrived in Dubai for the ICC tournament.

India clinched the Champions Trophy title with a four-wicket win over New Zealand in the final in Dubai on March 9. In the post-match press conference, Rohit confirmed that he has no immediate plans to retire from ODIs. However, he remained uncertain about his participation in the 2027 World Cup.

I'm Not Going to Retire from This Format - Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma made it clear that he has no plans to retire from ODIs. However, he emphasized that he wants to take things one step at a time rather than looking too far ahead.

"One more thing. I'm not going to retire from this format, just to make sure that no rumours are spread moving forward."

"I don't want to draw any lines and say whether I will or won't play in the 2027 World Cup. There's no point in making such statements right now," he told the official broadcaster.

Rohit Sharma Turns to Abhishek Nayar to Extend ODI Career Until 2027 World Cup

However, a new report revealed that Rohit Sharma is already planning for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa. Rohit is set to focus on his fitness and batting with assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. As per Cricbuzz, the 37-year-old batter is hoping to secure a third ICC trophy before retiring from white-ball cricket.

"A key part of his plans is likely to be Nayar, who is regarded as a highly intelligent coach with modern techniques and styles. Many players in the Indian team, including KL Rahul, have either worked with him or are currently working with him," the report read.

"In fact, Rahul has credited Nayar on more than one occasion about the guidance he got from Nayar and continues to work with him. Rohit will team up with his former Mumbai teammate as part of his preparation," the report added.

Rohit Sharma Played His Last Test for India?

Rohit Sharma’s aggressive batting at the top has played a crucial role in India’s recent ICC events, including the 2023 ODI World Cup, the 2024 T20 World Cup, and the Champions Trophy. India is set to play around 27 ODIs before the 2027 World Cup, and he is expected to use these matches to prepare for the event.

However, uncertainty remains over his Test career. He excluded himself from the Sydney Test during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) after his inconsistent performances in the format. The Indian skipper has expressed a desire to continue playing in both formats, but the selectors have yet to make a decision.

The veteran opening batter will be next seen in action during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He will play for Mumbai Indians (MI) under Hardik Pandya's captaincy. His form in the upcoming IPL season could be a key factor in determining his future.

When asked about the possibility of his selection for the five-Test series against England in June, a well-placed source said, "Let the IPL be over first. Only an astrologer thinks so far ahead into the future."
