The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has made special arrangements for the talismanic cricketer Rohit Sharma's comeback match in the Ranji Trophy. It is to be noted that Rohit will be playing a match in the Ranji Trophy after a gap of nine years.

The Indian captain will appear in Mumbai's match against Jammu & Kashmir which will be played at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Bandra Kurla Complex. The match will begin from January 23 and a heavy turnout is expected.

MCA makes special arrangements for Rohit Sharma's comeback match

The MCA has made special security arrangements due to the presence of Rohit Sharma. A large crowd is expected for the game as they will be watching Rohit play in a Ranji match after nine years. However, only 500 seats will be available at the venue

"Additional security has been arranged and we have also increased the sitting capacity of fans up to 500," an MCA official was quoted as saying by PTI. The seats are expected to be full due to the presence of high-level international cricketers in the match.

Rohit announced the decision to play in the Ranji Trophy during the press conference of India's squad selection for the Champions Trophy 2025. He had also trained with the Mumbai squad earlier after returning from Australia.

There have been questions over Rohit's commitment after his poor form with the bat in recent Tests for India. He endured a tough run in India's home Test season and also the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

Rohit Sharma to play under Ajinkya Rahane

Rohit Sharma will be playing under the captaincy of veteran India and Mumbai cricketer Ajinkya Rahane. Along with him, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, and Shardul Thakur are some of the high-profile players who will be in action for Mumbai, making them the favorites to win.

Among these players, Yashasvi Jaiswal has emerged as a high-class performer for India ever since his debut. Jaiswal is likely to open the batting against Jammu & Kashmir but Rohit's batting position is not yet confirmed.

Mumbai are currently ranked third in their group with 22 points. Baroda currently tops Group A with 27 points while Jammu & Kashmir is second with 23 points. Mumbai is also the defending champions having won the title last year under Ajinkya Rahane.

Rohit Sharma's recent Test form

Rohit Sharma scored just 31 runs in three Tests in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He averaged just 6.20 which sums up his ordinary tour down under. The 37-year-old even had to drop himself from the final Test in Sydney due to poor form. Jasprit Bumtah led India in Rohit's absence.

In the five Tests in the lead-up to the Test series in Australia, Rohit scored 133 runs against Bangladesh and New Zealand at home at an average of just 13.30 with the best of 52.

The BCCI recently made it clear that every player has to commit himself to playing domestic cricket whenever he is available. Along with Rohit, Virat Kohli has also confirmed his availability for Delhi's Ranji Trophy match against Railways starting on January 30.
