Team India captain Rohit Sharma will travel to Australia with the team amid reports of missing the first Test match in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25). Rohit Sharma will travel with the first batch of the Indian squad, but he might miss the opening Test of the five-match series, as per recent reports.

Rohit confirmed that he might miss the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth due to personal reasons. He was last seen in action during the three-match Test series against New Zealand at home. The Men in Blue suffered a humiliating whitewash 0-3 despite playing in home conditions.

Abhimanyu Easwaran Included In India's Squad As Backup Opener

Earlier reports suggested that the 37-year-old batter might miss the first Test in Australia due to his wife Ritika Sajdeh expecting their second child. "I am not sure of my availability for the first Test in Perth, fingers crossed," Rohit said about his availability after the third and final Test against New Zealand.

Abhimanyu Easwaran has been included in the squad as one of the replacements if Rohit misses the first Test. KL Rahul could also open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, while Dhruv Jurel might be used as a middle-order batter following his impressive performance for the A team at the iconic MCG

Rohit Sharma's Participation In The 1st Test Is Yet Not Confirmed

In recent developments, Rohit Sharma is set to travel with the Indian team to Australia on November 10. However, his participation in the first Test against Australia is uncertain. The report added that his participation depends on personal matters, with the situation to be reviewed closer to the match.

"He is traveling but his participation in the 1st Test is yet not confirmed. Will see what happens next anything in regards to this. His availability is subject to his matter," the source told India Today.

Rohi Sharma Could Rejoin Team India After Paternity Leave

Rohit wants to acclimatize to Australian conditions before the first Test match against Australia. He could then return to India to be with his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, and rejoin the team after his paternity leave. These are just speculations, but the clear details will be revealed once the team reaches Australia.

Team India has opted for a simulation practice instead of a three-day match against India A. The second four-day game against Australia A will conclude on November 10. The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy is crucial for both India and Australia to stay in the race for the ICC WTC 2025 final match.

If India wins the series 3-0, 3-1, or 4-1, they will qualify for the WTC final, provided the results of other teams go in their favor. The Rohit Sharma-led team is currently in second place in the table. Australia, India, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand are all in the race to finish in the top two spots in the table.
