Despite India’s dominant 2-0 Test series win, the West Indies captain, Roston Chase, has found some positives to take away from their 7-wicket defeat in the second and final Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday, October 14.

Chase was happy with the way the West Indies batter fared, and they have shown resilience in the second Test against India. The skipper also hailed John Campbell and Shai Hope, who both scored brilliant centuries in Delhi. Chase guided his team to bat through 100 overs in the second innings and pushed the game to the fifth day, which is a rare feat in recent times.

Roston Chase proud of West Indies' fight and tactical discipline in Delhi Test

Roston Chase said at the post-match presentation, “The positives for us in this match were that John Campbell and Shai Hope played well and scored hundreds. They fought for us; we batted 100 overs after a long time. That was another positive. Taking the game to the 5th day, that was great for us.”

The West Indies showed their patience and tactical discipline as well as displayed strategic intent, employing a mix of defensive and attacking techniques to counter India’s potent bowling attack. And Chase was happy that these tactical adjustments were executed with determination.

The all-rounder Roston Chase added, “We were always discussing and trying to find ways we could bat through those 80 overs. We came up with a lot of ideas, playing behind the spin, sweeping, and using our feet, and it was just about the guys going out there and executing the plans we’d spoken about.”

We just have to keep improving as much as we can: Roston Chase

Despite the loss, the West Indies captain Roston Chase saw the Delhi Test as an important learning experience and a confidence booster for the team ahead of their another crucial three-match Test series against New Zealand. He urged his team to take lessons from the Delhi Test match to improve their game and make a strong comeback against New Zealand.

Roston Chase signed off by saying, “I think the guys we have here are some of the best players in the Caribbean. So, it’s just for us to use this last test match as a stepping stone and a confidence booster going into the upcoming series. We just have to keep improving as much as we can from here.”

West Indies' fightback falls short as India chase 121 easily to complete Test series sweep

Meanwhile, India wrapped up a commanding 2-0 Test series victory over the West Indies. India’s dominance was evident throughout the series. The two-match Test series showcased India’s perfect blend of youth and experience, with Shubman Gill leading from the front and KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, and Yashasvi Jaiswal making valuable contributions with the bat.

Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja have once again delivered with the ball for the team. After declaring their first innings at 518 for 5 in the Delhi Test, thanks to centuries from Gill and Jaiswal and a solid 87 from Sai, India put the West Indies under immense pressure.

Kuldeep and Jadeja ran through the opposition’s batting line-up, while Bumrah maintained his relentless pace attack. The West Indies tried to fight back, with Campbell and Hope scoring their long-awaited centuries, and a last-wicket stand of 79 between Justin Greaves and Jayden Seales frustrating India’s bowlers.

However, they could set only a 121-run target for India that they chased down easily and registered a seven-wicket win in the final Test in Delhi to seal a 2-0 series victory.
