Mohammed Siraj, on Wednesday (May 22), clean bowled Riyan Parag to stop him from taking Rajasthan Royals over the line in the Eliminator against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The right-handed batsman walked out to bat in the tenth over and stood firm at one end as RR lost the wickets of their captain Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel in quick succession. RR were reeling at 112 for 4 in the 14th over at one stage before Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer steadied the ship.
The duo took the score past the 150-run mark and it looked like they would take RR home. However, Mohammed Siraj broke the stand in the 18th over by castling Parag. On the second ball of the over, the right-arm pacer bowled a pitched-up delivery and Parag went for a big heave across the line. However, he failed to make any contact with the ball and the ball went on to crash into the stumps.
Parag departed after scoring 36 runs off 26 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes. He also shared a crucial 45-run stand with Hetmyer for the fifth wicket.
Talking about the game, RR beat RCB by four wickets to qualify for the second qualifier and knocked out the latter from IPL 2024. Set a target of 173 runs, RR crossed the finishing line in 19 overs. RR will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second qualifier for a place in the final. Kolkata Knight Riders have already booked their place in the title decider.
The defeat has brought an end to RCB's stunning six-match winning run in the competition. RCB's chances of making it to the playoffs looked done and dusted after they lost seven of their first eight games. However, they won six games in a row to storm into the playoffs.
