Orange cap winner of IPL 2021, Ruturaj Gaikwad has opined his views on the national team selection as an opener after his impressive stint for the Chennai Super Kings. Gaikwad has been most effective as an opener in the IPL and has owned the position for CSK at the top of the order. His consistent run of scores in this edition will certainly put his name up for selection in the Indian team.

At the moment, India has an established opening pair in Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul for the T20 World Cup 2021 while Rohit and Dhawan have been a strong opening pair in ODI’s for a long time now. There have been numerous contenders for the backup opening slots and Gaikwad would have certainly moved up the pecking order with his excellent IPL season.

Ruturaj Gaikwad Looking To Concentrate On The Controllables

Ruturaj Gaikwad opined on the competition for the opening slot in the Indian team stating that he has to do the right things as the selection is not in his hands and added that he has to be very consistent in any tournament he plays. He concluded that the selection of him is certainly uncontrollable from his side.

Gaikwad Bags The Youngest Orange Cap Holder Award In IPL History

Ruturaj Gaikwad notched up 635 runs in this IPL season in 16 games including a scintillating century in one game this season and he has broken the record for the youngest player to win the orange cap in IPL history. The CSK opener has achieved the feat in just 24 years of age and looks set for a big future in the Indian circuit.

Gaikwad had already made his debut for India in the limited over series against Sri Lanka but he needs to keep scoring plenty of runs to secure a position in the first-string Indian side.
