Former Indian spinner Amit Mishra has accused the former Team India head coach Rahul Dravid of favoritism, saying he was giving chances to Shubman Gill while ignoring Ruturaj Gaikwad because the legendary cricketer likes the young opener.

There is a notion that Gaikwad has been ignored by the BCCI and national selectors to support Gill, despite the fact that the fact that he is a better captain and batter than the Punjab lad. He doesn’t know how to do captaincy: Amit Mishra on Shubman Gill

Mishra also said that he will never make Gill India captain, as he doesn’t think the right-handed batter is captain material. He added, “I have seen in the IPL. He doesn’t know how to do captaincy. He has no idea about captaincy, and the result is in front of all of us.”

The former cricketer mentioned that the Gujarat Titans were helpless to appoint Gill as their captain after Hardik Pandya left the franchise at the last moment.

When he was asked why he was made Indian captain for the Zimbabwe tour, Mishra noted that the BCCI and the national selectors may be looking to groom him as captain for the future and give him experience as he completely flopped as GT captain in the IPL 2024.

He added that they are just exploring options, as they have already tried Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain. They have Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant for captaincy as well.
