Things are not going well for Ruturaj Gaikwad in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. The right-handed batsman has not managed to live up to the expectations either as a batsman or a captain so far.
On Tuesday (April 8), CSK suffered a 12-run loss against Punjab Kings. It was their fourth defeat in a row, and the five-time champions are currently languishing in the ninth spot in the points table. CSK started their campaign with a win over Mumbai Indians before losing four games in a row.
In their second game, they lost against Royal Challengers Bengaluru before suffering a similar fate against Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings.

With only 1 win from 5 games, CSK are in danger of missing out on the playoff spot for the second year in a row. They need a remarkable turnaround to change their fortunes and revive their campaign.

Gaikwad couldn't contribute to ensure CSK's win
Ruturaj Gaikwad's performance with the bat has not been up to the mark either. On Tuesday, when CSK were chasing 220 runs against Punjab Kings, the onus was on him to lead the team from the front. However, the CSK captain had a forgettable outing with the bat as he was dismissed for just 1 run.
And as soon as Gaikwad was dismissed, the fans were quick to remind him about one of his old comments about RCB. During an event last year, the CSK star had taken a dig at the Bengaluru-based outfit. As he was about to address the audience, a microphone malfunctioned.
The mic was accidentally turned off by one of the workers, prompting the host of the event to say, "How can you turn off Ruturaj's mic?".
In reply, Gaikwad left the audience in splits by saying: "Might be someone from RCB".
As Gaikwad failed to deliver with the bat against Punjab, his 'might be someone from RCB' comment went viral once again as he was dismissed by a present or former RCB bowler for the fourth time in a row.
In the second game against RCB, he was sent back by Josh Hazlewood. In the following three games, former RCB bowlers Mitchell Starc, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Lockie Ferguson dismissed the CSK captain.
Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side ends CSK's stunning record:
Not only the former RCB bowlers but also the current RCB team have tarnished Ruturaj Gaikwad's captaincy record.
In the ongoing season, RCB defeated CSK in their own backyard. It was RCB's first-ever win over CSK in Chennai since the inaugural season way back in 2008. The defeat made Ruturaj Gaikwad the first CSK captain since 2008 to lose a home game against RCB.
