Ryan Cook Appointed As Interim Head Coach Of Netherlands

South Africa’s Ryan Cook on Saturday (May 14) was named interim head coach of the Netherlands men’s cricket team.

The move came after regular head coach Ryan Campbell suffered a series of cardiac arrest last month while he was on a vacation with family in Perth, Australia.

The 50-year-old was recently discharged from a Royal Stoke University Hospital on Newcastle Road, Stoke-on-Trent (United Kingdom).

The Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond (governing body of cricket in Netherlands) is hopeful of Campbell to return later this summer.

Cook, who held the position of fielding coach of Bangladesh until 2019 World Cup, expressed his gratitude to be named the coach of the Dutch national side.

Cook has also worked as assistant coach of Hobart Hurricanes, South Africa A and South Africa U19, although, he never played any competitve level cricket.

“I am honoured to be joining the team and look forward to working with the players and coaches for the next few months. There is an exciting schedule ahead and I aim to help the team from strength to strength,” Cook said.

Cook’s father Jimmy Cook played three Tests and four ODI matches for the Proteas in 1991-1993. His brother Stephen Cook has also played 11 Tests for South Africa national team with the last appearance was made against New Zealand in 2017.

The Netherlands will host West Indies for a three-match ODI series at home between May 31 and June 4 at the VRA Cricket Ground, Amstelveen. The matches will be part of the ICC ODI Super League.

The Netherlands are also scheduled to play three ODIs against in England in July. They will play a couple of T20I matches against the Black Caps in August followed by three ODIs vs Pakistan.
