India National Cricket Team assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate is likely leaving the Gautam Gambhir-led coaching setup, with the ongoing ODI series against England set to be his final assignment with the team.
According to a Cricbuzz report published on Tuesday, the assistant coach's departure will require approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and head coach Gautam Gambhir, with July 19 potentially marking his last day within the Indian coaching staff.
Ryan ten Doeschate's India exit depends on Gautam Gambhir's nod: Report
As per the same report, Ryan ten Doeschate has already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his desire to leave the job and will take an exit gracefully.
"Cricbuzz understands that he has already informed the BCCI of his desire to move on and has requested the board to relieve him. There are, it is learnt, multiple reasons behind his decision to step away, none of which has anything to do with job dissatisfaction, sources insist. What can be said with certainty, however, is that if the separation eventually happens - as appears most likely - it will be an amicable parting. The end will be cordial with mutual consent," the report read.
In another development, Dinesh Karthik has claimed that Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar have "conflict and friction".
Why does Ryan ten Doeschate want to leave the Team India job?
As it is understood, Ryan ten Doeschate's desire to quit the India job is not because of dissatisfaction, but to spend more time with his family. The former Netherlands cricketer is a father of three children, and his wife is also an active professional based in London.
Due to a heavy schedule, the Indian cricket team needs to travel across the continents throughout the year, which allows the former cricketer to spend a limited amount of time with his family. In the near future, Ryan ten Doeschate is expected to undertake jobs which will need less travel.
According to the Cricbuzz report, ten Doeschate has already completed two years with the Indian cricket team, and his contract might have expired recently.
As the team is in the mid-phase of the white-ball series in England, he is likely to remain with the team until the end of the three-match ODI series against England, which will mark the end of Team India's tour of the United Kingdom.
"In fact, his tenure is believed to have ended around this time - July 12-14. With the Indian team currently on tour in England, he may seek to be relieved immediately after the third and final ODI at Lord's," the report mentioned.
It is well known that the head coach Gautam Gambhir shares a close bond with the Dutchman. In fact, it was Gambhir who recommended his name to the BCCI after taking over as India's head coach a couple of years ago.
BCCI's final decision about Ryan ten Doeschate's tenure is yet to come
Ryan ten Doeschate has been working as the assistant coach of the team, while he is mostly known for his contributions in fielding. As T Dilip is already serving the team as the fielding coach, opportunities for the Netherlands international cricketer to express his expertise in the same area may have been limited by some distance.
However, as it was mentioned earlier, Ryan ten Doeschate could leave the Indian cricket team because of personal reasons, not because of any issue related to the job.
Given India's recent setbacks in the T20I format, it will be interesting to see the BCCI's stand if Gambhir approves his assistant coaches' departure soon.
