Young South African sensation Dewald Brevis opened up about his maiden call-up from the national team for the upcoming series against Australia. Dewald Brevis admitted that massive expectations provide an opportunity for him to demonstrate his abilities in international cricket.
Dewald Brevis came into the limelight following his impressive performances in the U19 World Cup 2021-22. The right-handed batter was the leading run-getter for the tournament for the South Africa team, scoring 506 runs in six games, including two centuries and three half-centuries.
Wanted To Be Part Of This Amazing Set-Up – Dewald Brevis
Dewald Brevis stated that becoming a part of the Proteas team is his lifelong aspiration, adding that it is an honor to spend time with the team.
“From a very young age, I’ve wanted to be part of this amazing set-up of the Proteas,” Brevis said ahead of the series.
“It’s been an honour and it’s been wonderful to live my dream and to spend time with the team. Couldn’t have asked for anything better,” he added.
Brevis has been included in both teams for the white-ball series against Australia. South Africa is set to host Australia in three T20Is, followed by five ODIs. The white-ball series is scheduled to commence in Durban on Wednesday, August 30.
There Will Always Be Expectations – Dewald Brevis
Dewald Brevis, popularly known as Baby AB, expressed his hope to excel in pressure situations to establish himself in the international arena.
“I know there will always be expectations and I always like that because there is more reason to show who you are then,” he further added.
“Pressure is always there; I feel the pressure, but I like it. It’s just how you deal with it, just being yourself and enjoying the moment and trying not to think too much of it.”
The 20-year-old could secure a spot in the upcoming ODI World Cup by performing well in the upcoming series. He is expected to make his debut for the national team in the series against Australia.
