SA vs AUS: Michael Neser Replaces Injured Spencer Johnson In Australia Squad

Left-arm pacer Michael Neser has been added to the Australia squad in the ongoing SA vs AUS ODI series. Michael Neser’s addition comes after Spencer Johnson faced an injury and had to be ruled out of the South Africa vs Australia ODI series.

Earlier, Spencer Johnson was picked in Australian squad as a replacement for Mitchell Starc, who had faced a groin issue ahead of the start of the series. The left-arm pacer has only played 2 T20I games for Australia so far.

Michael Neser To Be Part of India Tour Too

Australia selector Tony Dodemaide informed IANS about Michael Neser’s addition to the Australia squad for the AUS vs SA series.

“He (Michael Neser) is an experienced all-format cricketer who will provide us with an extra fast bowling option should that be required for the remainder of the tour,” selector Tony Dodemaide said.

Neser is also going to be part of the forthcoming ODI series against India. India and Australia are set to clash in three ODI games during Australia’s tour of India 2023 in September. The series will take place after Asia Cup 2023 and just before the ICC World Cup 2023.

In their social media handle, Cricket Australia revealed that Spencer Johnson has sustained a minor hamstring injury.

“Left-arm fast-bowler Spencer Johnson, who was added to the ODI squad as Mitchell Starc is battling a groin issue, has now sustained a minor hamstring injury, wrote Cricket Australia on its social media accounts”, Cricket Australia wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Australia won the 2nd ODI against South Africa by 123 runs. The match witnessed one of the biggest totals in history as Australia posted 392-8 in 1st innings.

Australia has won two games in a row in the five-match series. Earlier, Australia won the 1st ODI by 3 wickets. They lead the five-match series 2-0. They need one more victory during the next three games to outplay South Africa in the series.

Both the teams will now lock horns in the 3rd ODI on Tuesday (September 12). The SA vs AUS 3rd ODI encounter will take place at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.

Earlier, Australia defeated South Africa in the T20I series. Australia grabbed a clean sweep in the series. They won the 1st T20I by 111 runs, the 2nd T20I by 8 wickets, and 3rd T20I by 5 wickets.
