SA vs AUS: Tim David Gets Maiden ODI Call Against South Africa To Make Last-Minute Push For World Cup Spot

Right-handed Aussie batsman, Tim David got his maiden ODI call against South Africa in the upcoming five-match 50-over format game which will help him to make a final push to make his spot in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 squad.
In the first T20I match of the three-game series at Kingsmead in Durban, the Proteas won the toss and opted to bowl first.
In the first inning, the Aussie openers, Travis Head and Matthew Short failed to make a mark in the match, However, Mitchell Marsh, who took over the captainship after Pat Cummins was injured, scored 92 runs from 49 balls with a strike rate of 187.76.
One of the major takeaways from the match is Tim David’s blistering innings as he scored 64 runs from just 28 balls with a strike rate of a massive 228.57.
His current form has surely caught the selectors’ attention following which he got his first call for Australia’s upcoming five-game ODI series against South Africa which will start from Thursday (September 7th).
In the second inning, the Aussies needed to defend 227 runs and they were successful in dismissing the Proteas at 115 to clinch a 111-run victory.
Tanveer Sangha scalped four wickets in his four-over spell and gave away 31 runs. Marcus Stoinis delivered three overs in which he gave away 18 runs and picked up three wickets.
Spencer Johnson is considered one of the lethal bowlers in the squad took two wickets in his 3.3 over spell and gave away 33 runs.
Can Tim David’s International numbers justify his maiden ODI call?
Tim David made his international debut in 2019 against Qatar, following which he played 24 matches for the Aussies and scored 713 runs in the 20-over format with a strike rate of 161.68.
The right-handed batsman should get a chance, especially after his 64-run knock from 28 balls. Without giving a chance to a player one cannot understand if the player can do well or not. However, Tim David certainly shows that he has a lot of potential in him and can make a difference in a match at any moment.
However, Tim David needs to perform in the upcoming ODI series to book his spot in the Aussie squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
In the forthcoming extravaganza tournament, Australia will start their campaign against Rohit Sharma’s India on October 8th at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
