SA vs BAN: Watch - Gerald Coetzee Claps For Mahmudullah After Dismissing The All-rounder

The South Africa National Cricket Team pacer Gerald Coetzee appreciated the performance of the veteran Bangladesh National Cricket Team all-rounder Mahmudullah in the 23rd match of the ICC World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, October 24.

Chasing a mammoth total of 383 runs in the match, Bangladesh were off to an awful start and they lost half the side for 58 runs. Star batters Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, and Najmul Hossain Shanto were back in the hut and it looked like Bangladesh would face a humiliating defeat.

That was when Mahmudullah stepped up and played a stupendous innings. He put together crucial runs with the lower-order batters to push the Proteas on the back foot.

Mahmudullah scored 111 runs off 111 balls, with 11 fours and 4 sixes, before getting dismissed in the 46th over. On the 4th ball of the over Gerald Coetzee bowled a full and wide delivery to the all-rounder and he mistimed it to long-off where Marco Jansen grabbed an easy catch.

After dismissing the all-rounder, the pacer Coetzee was seen clapping to appreciate the valiant effort of the veteran.

There has been lot of talking about whether Mushfiq and Mahmudullah should bat higher ??? Shakib Al Hasan

During the post-match presentation ceremony, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan said that they bowled well in the first 25 overs, but after that things went out of their hand. He elaborated:

???We bowled first 25 overs well. We got three wickets, they were going at about 5 an over. From there they kicked on. Quinton batted really well, and the way Klaasen finished was something we didn???t have any answer to. On a ground like this it can happen but we should???ve bowled better. Lost the game in the last 10 overs.???

Shakib Al Hasan further revealed that there have been discussions in the Bangladesh camp to promote Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah in the batting order. He explained:

???Has been lot of talking about whether Mushfiq and Mahmudullah should bat higher. But the role they have, they???re doing very well. Our top four batters need to do well. Long way to go in this tournament, anything can happen. Lot to be learnt, and lot to play for. Will love to finish 5-6 if not in the semis. We???re not playing like a team that can do it, but hope to finish stronger.???

South Africa won the match by 149 runs against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team to make their case strong for the semi-finals of the World Cup 2023.
