SA20 2027 fixtures announced: Full schedule, dates and venues revealed

The organisers of SA20 have officially announced the complete fixtures for the fifth edition of the tournament, with the competition set to run from January 17 to February 21, 2027.

SA20 2027 will once again feature six franchises competing across South Africa, with the tournament beginning in Gqeberha and culminating in the final at Newlands in Cape Town. The schedule for the fifth season of the competition has been adjusted to begin later than usual to accommodate England's ODI series against South Africa.

The opening match of SA20 2027 will see defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape take on Pretoria Capitals in a rematch of the Season 4 final at St George's Park, Gqeberha, on Sunday, January 17.

The league stage will run for a month, with every franchise playing home and away fixtures across South Africa's six venues. Organisers have also scheduled four Saturday double-headers on January 23, January 30, February 6 and February 13, giving supporters the opportunity to enjoy two matches on the same day throughout the tournament.

The playoffs will begin with Qualifier 1 at Boland Park, Paarl, on February 16, marking the first time the venue will host a playoff fixture in SA20 history. The Wanderers in Johannesburg will then stage both the Eliminator on February 17 and Qualifier 2 on February 19, before attention shifts to Newlands, Cape Town, where the final will be played on February 21.

Newlands will host the championship match for the second consecutive season and the third time overall since the tournament was launched. Meanwhile, the delayed start to Season 5 ensures there is no clash with England's ODI series in South Africa, allowing the competition to feature more of the world's leading players.

SA20 League Commissioner Graeme Smith said the release of the fixture list marks an important milestone as preparations for the new season gather pace. He added that opening the tournament with a rematch of last season's dramatic final makes for the perfect start to another exciting edition of the league.

"Announcing the Betway SA20 fixtures is always a big moment for us, it’s the first major milestone ahead of the new season and it means the wheels are in motion for us as we build towards an incredible month of cricket.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals served up a classic in Cape Town last season, and it's fitting that they're the two teams out in the middle when the season gets underway in Gqeberha on 17 January 2027," Smith said.

Cape Town will once again host the SA20 final at Newlands, and Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis welcomed the decision, highlighting the city's growing reputation as one of the world's premier cricket destinations. He also pointed to the significance of hosting the SA20 final in the same year South Africa is set to stage the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.
