Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar had a fairytale international career that spanned across four decades.
Having made his debut as a 16-year-old batting prodigy during the 1989 tour of Pakistan, Sachin Tendulkar captured the imagination of the cricketing world with his precocious talent and awe-inspiring consistency as he went about dominating the bowlers for the better part of the next 24 years.
However, Tendulkar, who achieved everything in his storied career which includes playing most number international games, scoring most number runs and hundreds besides winning the World Cup in 2011, still has a couple of regrets.
It is a well-known fact that Sachin idolized ‘Little Master’ Sunil Gavaskar and the original ‘Master Blaster’ Sir Vivian Richards during his formative years.
And, so two of his biggest regrets is that he didn’t have the opportunity to play alongside Sunil Gavaskar and against Sir Vivian Richards.
Tendulkar made his international debut in 1989 while Sunil Gavaskar played his last international fixture for India in 1987.
“I have two regrets. The first is that I have never played with Sunil Gavaskar. Gavaskar was my batting hero when I grew up and not playing with him as part of a team remains a regret. Gavaskar retired a couple of years before I made my debut,” Sachin Tendulkar told IANS.
As far as Sir Vivian Richards is concerned, while Sachin Tendulkar played against him in county cricket, he did not get the same opportunity in international cricket even though the West Indian legend continued playing till 1991.
“My other regret is not having played against my childhood hero Sir Vivian Richards. I was fortunate to have played against him in county cricket, but I still rue not being able to play against him in an international match,” said Sachin Tendulkar.
“Even though Sir Richards retired in 1991 and we have a couple of years overlapping in our careers, we did not get to play against each other,” he added.
