ECI will conduct a grand event to honor Sachin Tendulkar as a national icon. The event takes place on August 23 at Rang Bhavan in New Delhi. ECI will sign an MoU with Tendulkar for three years.
“Cricket legend and Bharat Ratna awardee Shri Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar would begin a new innings – as the ‘National Icon’ for voter awareness and education for the Election Commission of India.
An MoU would be signed with the legend for a period of 3 years at an event to be organized on August 23, 2023 at Rang Bhavan, Akashvani, New Delhi”, an official statement from ECI read.
ECI also added that the collaboration with Sachin Tendulkar is a significant step for increasing voters’ participation in forthcoming elections like the Lok Sabha elections next year.
“This collaboration would mark a significant step towards leveraging Tendulkar’s unparalleled impact with the youth demographic for increasing voters’ participation in the forthcoming elections, especially in General Elections 2024.
ECI through this partnership aims to bridge the gap between citizens, especially youth and urban populations and the electoral process thereby, trying to address the challenges of urban and youth apathy”, the ECI statement further said.
Last year, ECI also recognized actor Pankaj Tripathi as the national icon for voter awareness. In the past, celebrities like MS Dhoni, Aamir Khan, and Mary Kom were also picked as national icons by the Election Commission of India.
