Sadagoppan Ramesh Slams Team India For Shameful Defeat Against Ireland Says No Picnic

It is hard to digest the fact that India lost to Ireland. On June 26, with a bunch of underrated cricketers, the home team humbled the Mukti time T20 World Cup winners in Belfast. While everyone was more than sure to see Team India claiming a thumping win over the lower-ranked team, Ireland, the hosts gave everyone a reality check by defeating the Men in Blue by 34 runs, which was massive.

Across all formats of the game, it was Ireland's first-ever win over the Men in Blue. Former India batter Sadagoppan Ramesh refused to hold back after watching such a poor performance by the Shreyas Iyer-led team. Ramesh stated that the team went down only because of overconfidence.

Sadagoppan Ramesh explains why India lost the match to Ireland

Comparing India's tour of the United Kingdom, where they are scheduled to face Ireland and then England for limited-overs contests, the visitors might have considered the England series as the main course and the series against Ireland as a side dish.

Ramesh reminded the boys that they are not in Ireland for a picnic, but to play cricket. "Ireland deserves praise for using the bigger boundaries and testing the Indian batters out with the short delivery. It was clear that India played the match casually."

"They thought the Ireland series was a picnic tour, which they would win easily, and were serious only about the England series. But Ireland taught India a lesson by saying this is no picnic spot,” the ex-opener said on his YouTube channel.

"Overconfidence is never healthy"- Sadagoppan Ramesh slams India after loss to Ireland

He noted that the series against Ireland was originally in the plans, which also might have had an effect on the cricketers' minds. Whatever the reasons were, a defeat is a defeat; the result will remain unchanged. The 50-year-old mentioned that overconfidence is never good for health.

“The Ireland series was not even originally scheduled. It was like a pickle to the main course, which was England. But India embarrassingly couldn’t handle the spice of the pickle, which is Ireland."

"Irrespective of what excuses can be cooked up for this, it’s a shocking and terrible defeat for Team India. Overconfidence is never healthy, and it’s because of that that India’s story was over last night. India must be confident but not overconfident," he added.

Sadagoppan Ramesh highlights the fact that all of the Indian players have been actively involved in the format for months

Wins and defeats are all part of the game, but how a team loses or competes in the match could become a topic for discussion. Ramesh noted that the players have been engaged in the T20 format for about 4 months, since the 2026 T20 World Cup, and then the IPL 2026 season. How could the cricketers, who have been playing cricket in a continuous process, perform so poorly? The former cricketer raised the question.

"Yes, even an elephant occasionally slips up. But how can it happen against Ireland? This is a shocker, especially for a team whose last T20 match was the final of a World Cup. After a month of T20 cricket in the World Cup, all the Indian players played another 3 months of IPL. To play 4 months of continuous T20 cricket and then lose to Ireland is unexplainable," he added further in the same video.
