Saeed Ajmal Recalls Sachin Tendulkar's 'Controversial' DRS Decision In 2011 World Cup, Takes A Dig At Indian Team

Former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal took a dig at the Virat Kohli-led India for their stump mic outburst after the controversial DRS decision which helped Proteas skipper Dean Elgar survive in the last innings of the 3rd Test of the three-match Test series between India and South Africa at the Newlands, Cape Town.

The incident occurred on Day 3 of the third Test in 21st over of South Africa’s second innings when Dean Elgar was given out LBW by on-field umpire Marias Erasmus after the ball struck him right in front of the stumps.

However, Elgar opted for a review and the decision was overturned and he survived after the replays showed that the ball went over the leg stumps. This led to frustration among Indian players and they were seen making nasty remarks at official broadcasters Supersport using the stump mic.

Former Pakistan spinner Ajmal recalled the incident which happened during the semifinal of the 2011 World Cup between India and Pakistan. During the match, Saeed Ajmal trapped the legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar LBW and the on-field umpire Ian Gould raised his finger. However, the DRS overturned the decision as the replay showed that the ball was not hitting the stumps.

“When the Sachin Tendulkar decision from the 2011 World Cup was overturned on review, I was told that the technology should be trusted & is accurate. Today those same people are saying the technology should not be trusted & is not accurate,” Ajmal said.

Notably, Tendulkar went on to smash 85 runs in that match and India won the game by 29 runs to enter the final and eventually win the World Cup under MS Dhoni.
