Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan took revenge on Australia batter Steve Smith during the recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 match against Quetta Gladiators. Farhan deliberately denied Smith a single while batting together for Multan Sultans at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday, April 5.
In January, Smith refused Babar a single to retain the strike for the Power Surge. Notably, the Australia batter smashed 32 runs, including four consecutive sixes, in the next over, which is the record for the most expensive over in BBL history. The former Pakistan skipper was frustrated and lost his wicket for 47 runs.
Sahibzada Farhan Takes Revenge On Steve Smith
A viral video on social media shows Sahibzada Farhan rejecting a run on the final delivery of the third over. Steve Smith ran more than halfway down the pitch but had to return to the striker’s end. Smith was batting on 35 off 12 balls, while Sahibzada Farhan was on 11 (5). Multan Sultans Dominate With Spin To Restrict Quetta Gladiators
Multan Sultans dominated Quetta Gladiators at the Gaddafi Stadium. The Gladiators batted first after losing the toss. Ashton Turner opened the bowling with spin and trapped Khawaja Nafay leg before wicket. Shamyl Hussain scored just two runs, leaving Quetta Gladiators under early pressure.
Saud Shakeel and Hasan Nawaz staged a recovery by building a 55-run partnership. Saud Shakeel batted positively and scored 56 runs off 41 balls. However, Arafat Minhas broke their momentum in a single over. Wicketkeeper Josh Philippe stumped Hasan Nawaz before Arafat Minhas dismissed Rilee Rossouw shortly after.
Bevon Jacobs and Ahmed Daniyal accelerated the scoring in the death overs. Bevon Jacobs scored 49 not out off 31 deliveries. Ahmed Daniyal smashed 22 runs off nine balls but suffered a hamstring injury. Quetta Gladiators finished their 20 overs at 166/7.
Multan Sultans used 15 overs of spin bowling on a batting-friendly pitch. Mohammad Nawaz took three wickets for 30 runs. Arafat Minhas picked up two wickets for 14 runs. The spin attack restricted Quetta Gladiators to just 91 runs in those 15 overs.
Steve Smith And Shan Masood Guide Run Chase
Steve Smith and Sahibzada Farhan started the run chase aggressively. They scored 63 runs in the first four overs. Steve Smith hit two fours and a six against Alzarri Joseph, while Sahibzada Farhan attacked Abrar Ahmed. The duo reached a fifty-run partnership in just over three overs against the pace bowlers.
Multan Sultans ended their powerplay at 83/1. This total equalled their franchise record previously set against Hyderabad Kingsmen. Alzarri Joseph dismissed Sahibzada Farhan to break the 71-run opening stand. Steve Smith continued and brought up his maiden Pakistan Super League half-century.
Steve Smith scored 53 runs before falling to a relay catch. Saqib Khan and Rilee Rossouw combined near the square leg boundary to complete the dismissal. Shan Masood then anchored the innings, scoring 46 not out off 36 balls. Multan Sultans chased down the target with 15 balls to spare.
Hasan Nawaz took two wickets for 17 runs, but Multan Sultans secured a comfortable six-wicket win. They secured their third win in four matches. Meanwhile, Quetta Gladiators suffered their third loss in four games this season.
