Sai Kishore is waving his spin magic in the County Championship for Gloucestershire. In his match of the season with the English cricket club, the Indian spinner took 7 wickets, including a 5-fer against Derbyshire.

In the ongoing County Championship, multiple Indian spinners, including Yuzvendra Chahal, Manav Suthar, and Kishore, have taken the spotlight. Among these three spinners, Kishore turns out to be the most effective with the ball, gaining a reputation as a regular wicket-taker for Gloucestershire.

Sai Kishore continues to shine in domestic cricket

English conditions are mostly supportive of the pace bowlers, as seamers find it easy to move the ball. Taking wickets in significant numbers is an achievement for Kishore, a spinner.

Sai Kishore, who played his last match for the Indian national team against Afghanistan on October 7, 2023, during the Asian Games in Hangzhou, has been out of the national cricket team selection process for a long time.

Outside the Indian cricket team, he has been performing brilliantly in domestic cricket in India and now in England as well. The Tamil Nadu-born player's first match for Gloucestershire this year was against Worcestershire, when he went wicketless in the second innings but claimed 4 in the first.

Five-wicket haul for Sai Kishore

In the following match, he picked a brace in the lone innings against Durham. Against Derbyshire, Sai Kishore took 7 wickets across the innings; the 5-fer he got was only against 20 runs. As Derbyshire's second innings came to an end for only 105 runs, Kishore's Gloucestershire won the match by 213 runs.

In Indian domestic cricket, Kishore has established himself as one of the most reliable bowlers for his state team across different domestic cricket tournaments. He made his List A debut in March 2017 and his first-class debut in the following year through the Ranji Trophy. The spinner caught everyone's attention when he emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the 2019-20 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

During the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season, Kishore was appointed as the captain of the Tamil Nadu cricket team. As the captain of the team, the skillful bowler claimed 53 wickets in 9 matches with an extraordinary average of 18.49 in the tournament.

Will the Indian team management consider Sai Kishore in the future?

Despite performing consistently, especially with the red ball across tournaments, the Team India selectors keep Kishore out of their scheme. In the recent time, the selectors handed Test caps to spinners like Manav Suthar and Saransh Jain, but ignored Kishore again. Like Suthar and Jain, Kishore is also a seasoned spinner in Indian domestic cricket and knows the grounds across the nation very well.

After the heroics for the English County cricket club, will the selectors turn their heads towards the experienced spinner? His recent form is enough to make his bid strong for a national team comeback, as the India National Cricket Team is still in the race to confirm a spot in the WTC 2025-27 final.
