India's new Test captain, Shubman Gill, and his Gujarat Titans teammate, Sai Sudharsan, will miss the upcoming India A match against England Lions at Northampton, starting June 6. Instead of them, KL Rahul has decided to travel to England in advance to have some red-ball practice under his belt.
Earlier, BCCI had said that both Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan will play the second and final unofficial Test match for India A against England Lions in Northampton. But now they have been rested from the game after their hectic IPL 2025 season with the Gujarat Titans.
Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan rested from the India A match
Now, both Gill and Sudharsan will travel to England with the India National Cricket Team on June 6 for the upcoming five-match Test series, starting on June 20 in Leeds. They have been training with the red ball in India after the Gujarat Titans were eliminated from the IPL 2025 on May 30.

A source was quoted as saying by the Times of India, “Both Sai and Gill have been training with the red ball recently. After a long IPL season, they need some rest and recovery.”
RevSportz also confirmed that Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan will depart with the senior squad on June 5, and the team will arrive in London on June 6. Now, Gill, Sai, and the rest of the Indian squad will only get red-ball match practice during a four-day intra-squad game against India A in Beckenham from June 13 to 16, before the five-match Test series opener in Leeds on June 20.
KL Rahul set for red-ball action against England Lions
However, KL Rahul is all set to play the India A fixture to sharpen his red-ball skills ahead of the Test series. It is being said that Rahul personally requested the BCCI to advance his departure, and Revsportz claimed that the star batter will be in England on Tuesday, June 3, to get used to the conditions before the Test series.
The report claimed KL Rahul will join the India A squad on June 3 and will feature in the final unofficial Test against the England Lions.
The right-handed batter wanted to have some red-ball practice, and that was not possible in Mumbai due to rain, so he decided to play in the second unofficial Test.
