The snub of Suryakumar Yadav from the national team stunned former Team India batter Subramanian Badrinath. While he welcomes Shreyas Iyer as the newly appointed leader of the T20 International side, he is in disbelief that the selectors have excluded Yadav from the team entirely.

Ahead of the team announcement, there were long speculations around Suryakumar Yadav. According to claims from various sources, the poor form with the bat is believed to be the sole reason behind the ejection.

Badrinath compares the exits for Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma

Subramanian Badrinath claims that by taking the tough decision, the selectors have made it clear that it is the end of the road for Suryakumar Yadav, who helped the team to win the 2026 ICC T20I World Cup. The former cricketer is afraid to say that Yadav’s international career might have reached to it’s final stage unceremoniously.

Getting snubbed after winning a World Cup trophy sounds harsh, but not something new in Indian cricket. Badrinath pointed out that the team management treated Rohit Sharma in a similar way.

“It's definitely the end of the road for Suryakumar Yadav. We won't see him in international cricket anymore. His winning percentage as a T20I captain is extremely high. Yet, these selectors have easily thrown him out."

"The same thing happened to Rohit Sharma after winning the Champions Trophy. There is a certain ruthlessness in the current team management,” Subramanian Badrinath said on his YouTube channel, Cric with Badri.

The former cricketer welcomes Shreyas Iyer as the captain

I agree with the decision to appoint Shreyas Iyer as captain, as he has been a superb leader in the IPL. But I was surprised as a World Cup-winning captain, who hasn't announced any retirement, has been immediately dropped because his batting performance has been poor,” he added.

Ajit Agarkar and his panel’s decision also cast an uncertainty over Yadav’s IPL career with the Mumbai Indians, as his batting remains in the slum. In the previous IPL season, the experienced middle-order’s batting average was only 20.76.

“Out of the blue, this makes me wonder - Will we see Suryakumar Yadav released from the Mumbai Indians? Because in T20 cricket, his career is on a dip. His performance, even for MI, has dipped quite a bit and has been very poor this season,’ Badrinath expressed.

This is the reality: Subramanian Badrinath

The 49-year-old further mentions that it is the reality of the game, even after enduring a well-decorated career, it can be finished in the blink of an eye. Yadav, who was considered one of the best batters across the world in the T20 format, lifted the T20I World Cup but still found himself out of contention.

“This is the reality of a cricketer's life, though. Your career will finish in the blink of an eye. Surya was the World Cup-winning captain before the IPL, and now, after the IPL, he's dropped. His Indian cricketing career is over,’ the former cricketer said in the same video.
